Consents: Understanding consent receipts
A consent receipt is the record of one visitor's consent decision. Clym stores consent receipts in the Control Center, where they can be reviewed as part of the consent records collected through your website.
Each receipt contains the same eleven fields, organized into two groups:
- Details — information about the consent decision itself.
- User data — information associated with the visitor who made the decision.
Most fields have the same meaning across all receipt types.
Details
The Details section contains information about the consent decision.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Receipt ID | A unique identifier generated for each consent received and associated with the consent record. |
| Receipt status | Indicates whether consent was given. The available values depend on the receipt type. |
| Receipt type | Identifies the type of consent recorded by the receipt. The three receipt types are Cookies, Wiretapping, and VPPA. |
| Created on | The date and time the consent was collected and the receipt was generated. |
| Data controller | The company name associated with the website and responsible for the relevant processing activity. |
| Processing purposes | The purposes for which the applicable services or processing activities are used, such as providing support, delivering customized advertising, or meeting legal requirements. |
| Collection method | Indicates how the visitor provided their preferences. For consent collected through the Clym widget, the value is Online form. |
5.2.2 User data
The User data section contains information associated with the visitor who made the consent decision.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Country | The country associated with the visitor's location when the consent was provided. |
| Region | Where applicable, the state, province, or other region associated with the visitor's location. |
| Origin | The URL where the visitor accessed the Clym widget and made their consent selections. |
| Profile ID | An identifier associated with the visitor on a given digital property. If the same visitor later submits a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) or provides another type of consent, the same Profile ID can be used to associate those records. |
How the receipt types differ
Clym can record three types of consent receipts, depending on the features configured for the website and the requirements that apply:
| Receipt type | Receipt status values | What consent was given to | Example processing purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cookies | Allowed, Partial, Denied | The services and tracking technologies configured on the website | Deliver customized advertising |
| Wiretapping | Allowed, Denied | Interaction with a live chat or AI chatbot when Clym's wiretapping functionality is in use | Online social activities |
| VPPA | Allowed, Denied | Embedded video content when the website is subject to the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) and Clym is configured to collect this consent | Display audio/video content |
Cookies
A Cookies receipt records the visitor's choices about the services and tracking technologies presented through the Clym consent experience.
The receipt status can be:
- Allowed — the visitor accepted all applicable services.
- Partial — the visitor accepted some applicable services but not others.
- Denied — the visitor rejected all applicable services.
Important: Consent is managed at the service level, not directly at the individual-cookie level. A "Partial" cookie consent therefore means that the visitor accepted some services and declined others.
Wiretapping
Wiretapping refers to consent associated with interaction with a live chat or AI chatbot when Clym's wiretapping functionality is in use.
The receipt status can be:
- Allowed — the visitor accepted the applicable terms and interacted with the chat or chatbot.
- Denied — the visitor rejected the applicable terms and did not interact with the chat or chatbot.
VPPA
VPPA stands for the Video Privacy Protection Act, a U.S. federal law governing certain records of video-viewing activity.
A VPPA receipt records consent associated with embedded video content when the website is subject to the VPPA and Clym is configured to collect this consent.
The receipt status can be:
- Allowed — the visitor accepted the applicable terms and viewed the video.
- Denied — the visitor rejected the applicable terms and did not interact with the video.
Note: Cookies is the only receipt type with a three-value status. A partial consent does not apply to Wiretapping or VPPA receipts because those consent experiences record whether the visitor accepted or rejected the applicable terms.
